Longest Games (Including Extra Innings)

Yesterday’s game between the LG Twins and Busan Lotte Giants ended in a frustrating 2-2 draw that took just above five hours.  This marked the 38th time a game took more than five hours in the history of the Korea Baseball Championship.

South Korea’s big league has ties.  Teams only play up to the 12th inning (15th in the playoffs).  The number of innings they play for a decision have varied in the past.  In 2008, the league once eliminated ties.  After a 14-inning game that ended 49 minutes past midnight (due to a rain delay) in June, and an 18-inning affair between the Hanwha Eagles and Seoul Doosan Bears in September, the league quickly went back to having ties.

So, in case you were wondering (although these are nothing compared to the 1974 marathon played at Shea Stadium), here I leave you a list and trends of the five plus-hour games in the history of Korean professional baseball.
