SK Wyverns “Black Yak School Day” – Jun. 5, 2014

The SK Wyverns are holding their eighth annual “School Day” tonight for their game against the Seoul Doosan Bears.

Over 12,000 students from 84 schools (elementary, middle, and high schools) in Incheon Metropolitan City will be invited to tonight’s game in hopes that the students include baseball in their choices of what to do in their free time.

A few students selected from Youngjong Elementary School’s (영종초등학교) branch and Incheon Jungang Girls’ Commercial High School (인천중앙여자상업고등학교) will be walking the starting lineup on the field, similar to matchday child mascots you would see in a European football match.  They also get to high-five the starting lineup.

The national anthem will be sung by the Youngjong Elementary School Choir, and the ceremonial first pitch will be thrown by a student who is a recipient of the Incheon Metropolitan City Office of Education’s Elemplary Student Award.  Also, the jump roping club of Shinmyung Girls’ High School will perform in front of the crowd during “cleaning time”, which is a five-minute break after the end of the 5th inning.

This year the program has a title sponsor added to its name – Black Yak, a Korean company specializing in outdoor recreation products.  A marketing agreement was signed between the Wyverns and Black Yak just this past offseason.  The outdoor recreation company plans to give out bags through quizzes during in-between inning breaks.
